Legacy
Nova started to often find herself in Shoji's company. It seemed purposeful. How they'd bump into each other and walk to class together. How he'd sit by her at lunch and walk with her back to their classroom. Or how they'd walk off campus together. He was a boy of few words though. Most of their walks were filled with a silence that eventually became a comfortable one. He wasn't an extravert, neither was Nova. But he still made an effort to stay around her. To keep her company. Despite the fact that she has previously beaten him at training.Suddenly school was... A lot less lonely.Bakugou didn't bother her again. But she caught him glaring often. Like her mere presence angered him. Meanwhile Iida was set on completely ignoring her existence. Which she was okay with. All of that seemed to matter a little less now.⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘While Shoji was a friend that would stand up for her, he still couldn't save her from her own last name.𝙾𝚗𝚕𝚢 𝚛𝚎𝚕𝚊𝚝𝚒𝚟𝚎 𝚘𝚏 𝚁𝚒𝚔𝚔𝚘 𝙺𝚞𝚛𝚊𝚢𝚊𝚖𝚒 𝚊𝚝𝚝𝚎𝚗𝚍𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚄𝙰 𝚑𝚒𝚐𝚑???She had made front page news. The memory of that one reporter ran though her mind. How he stared at her in recognition. How the camera of his partner flashed in her face.Who knows how he knew her. It's not like she has never been in the public eye before. Maybe he had been around during her father's trial. Though she had only been in there once it would make sense for him to recognize her. Maybe he was one of the reporters outside the prison when she had visited him one final time.Who really knows how he recognized her. What matters was that he did. And he wrote an entire article about it. While everyone else was thinking about All Might he had been thinking about her. Now everyone was thinking about her.She almost didn't want to come to school. Fearing the possible mob of reporters that would be there. But she didn't want to get in trouble for skipping. Besides it's not like she's never dealt with this before. She walked to UA with a hoodie over her uniform, pulled up over her braided hair. Maybe, just maybe she could slip past. There was a group of reporters there again. Just like yesterday. But it was smaller than last time, they probably had been scared off by the security system. Nova felt her gut twist and turn anxiously. Seeing all those people... knowing they were there for HER.But... To Nova's surprise close by was Shoji. The media didn't pay him much mind as he stood like a statue by the wall. His eyes scanning the area. Why wasn't he inside yet?He stopped when he saw her. Then carefully walked over. Glancing at the press to make sure they wouldn't notice his movement."Nova?" He asked in a whisper. Looking at her concealed face to make sure it was her. "I saw the articles... Are you okay?" He asked nervously. He would have reached out sooner but he didn't have any way to contact her. Not yet anyways."...I'm fine." Nova lied, looking away.He looked at her with a doubting expression. But didn't ask again. Instead he walked beside her as she slowly and nervously made her way to the gate. Stretching out his arms as a cover, blocking her from outside view.Protecting her.⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘If anyone in her class other than Shoji felt bad for Nova. They didn't show it.It was funny how something this big could be happening to her... While her whole class was living like everything was the same. It was like everyone was on a separate plan of existence from her.Maybe it was simply because they hadn't heard. Or because they already knew they didn't feel like it was a big deal, it didn't effect them. Maybe Nova was just being dramatic. But it felt like her life was ending. Not only did everyone at school know exactly who she was. But everyone on the outside was thinking about her existence again. People waited outside the gates hoping to snap a picture of the villain's daughter. She didn't know why. The last reporter had gotten a good enough one.She glanced at the low quality article on her flip phone's glitchy browser. The cover was the image taken of her.Staring wide eyed at the camera, her hair looked like a fiery mass of twisting locks behind her head. Her eyes looked so beady, her irises contrasted against her pupils horribly. Making her look like some sort of... Creature. She wondered if it was edited to look more creepy, or if her skin and eyes really were that pale. She sighed. The written part of the article explained who she was, that they had checked the UA acceptance list and confirmed that the name Kurayami was on it. And questioned why she would be there at all.She snapped her phone shut. Glancing around. School was over, most students were gone, or on their way out. Even Shoji had left Nova's side, after she told him she was going to go see Nezu. She had lied, sitting in their classroom looking out the window at the lingering press. She had been hoping they'd leave when the students did. That they'd just give up and come back later. But apparently failure wasn't in their vocabulary.Neither was 'Respect' or 'Boundaries'.Nova decided now was as good a time as ever to brave the crowd. Slipping from her classroom. The moment she did though was the same moment someone else left theirs.Right across the hall was the door to the other hero course class. Nova froze as she suddenly locked eyes with a completely unfamiliar boy. He looked equally as shocked, his eyes were an odd yellow. Bright as a flower, while his hair was black and blue. A few streaks of the lighter color on the front. He stared at Nova for a few seconds, looking her over as though he was glitching mentally. Unable to actually move."Kubota!"Nova glanced to the side. Another boy was walking down the hall towards them. His eyes fixed on Nova as he called the name of who she assumed was the other boy."Thanks for waiting for me, bro." The new boy said, he looked similar to the boy from 1-B. But... Older. With darker eyes and a white streak instead of blue. He stood over both of them, about Iida's height. Possibly a second or thirdyearNova turned to leave them. Hoping he'd stop glaring at her, that she could slip away unnoticed."Hey you're that villain kid right?" The older boy called out. Nova bit her lip and kept walking."Kain is that really-""Hey stay out of our school!!! You hear me??" The older boy yelled again. Despite the small protest from his brother. There was a certain mocking quality in his voice. She could almost hear his smirk. "We don't fucking want you here!!"She ran when she turned the corner. Not wanting him to give her any more problems. He didn't come after her. Though she heard him laugh to himself.⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘Nova looked at the gate, she could see the crowd out there, causing her to stop running. Her heart was beating so hard in her chest it was almost painful. Her right leg hurts. Her head hurt. She felt like she was going to cry, she didn't know what to do.She couldn't leave UA with those people there waiting for her. She just couldn't. What if they followed her?? She couldn't pick up Zoey with them behind her screaming out questions and taking pictures. She didn't want Zoey to be seen with her, not by them at least. She wiped her eyes. At the same time she couldn't just stand here. Zoey was all alone. She couldn't walk home like that, what if something happened? Nova would never forgive herself. She could call Karon, but there was no guarantee she'd actually answer.Nova sat down by a tree. She suddenly felt exhausted, as though she had just run a marathon. She pulled her hoodie over her head and tried to force her tears to stop. But she couldn't.She heard someone clear their throat. But she didn't move or even look up."...Hello um..." A man's voice said awkwardly.Nova glanced up at him. Somehow he looked both... Familiar and like a complete stranger. She rubbed her nose. The man was tall but hunched over. He looked... Sickly. Thin, almost skeletal. With tangled blonde hair, his bangs were longer than the rest. Making it almost to his collarbone. His eyes were blue, but shadowed by his brow. Why did he look familiar? Nova was sure if she had ever seen him before... She would have remembered it."...Rough day?" The stranger asked, looking down at her with what almost seemed like... Concern.Nova frowned and set her head on her knees, wrapping her arms around it. "Yeah I guess so..." She mumbled, looking up at the gate."...I'm sorry." He said, still standing over her. "This... Must be difficult to go through."She glanced up at him. Then back down. She didn't say anything. Neither did he. But for some odd reason... The silence they shared was similar to the one she had gotten used to sharing with Shoji. It wasn't awkward it was... Nice. She felt herself start to relax a little. The panic that had been swelling up started to cool. Her tears came slowly, before they stopped coming at all. She felt just a little more peaceful."...Who are you anyways?" Nova asked. Looking back up at the man. Who was looking at the gate and the media with a glare."...Just a teacher here." He mumbled, starting to pull away. "I hope your day gets better... Nova."Nova looked back down as he walked away, soon he was completely out of sight. She didn't know how to feel, his choice in names seemed very intentional. The way he hesitated before he used it. Like he was weighing the weight of each one.Her first name Nova could be seen as inappropriate for him to use, as a stranger. While Kurayami carried the weight of her entire situation. Bring back the memories of her bad day. Bad life.Eventually he chose her first... But it didn't make her uncomfortable. Oddly enough she seemed to like the stranger. Even though he didn't tell her his own name...She hoped she'd learn it one day."I AM HERE!!!!"She looked up suddenly as All Might appeared from the school. In all of his glory. Nova tensed slightly. The man put her on edge, although he hadn't done anything to her directly. She felt like he'd decide she was evil like her father, then drag her away to prison. That he'd yell and burst through her door again. Hatred burning in his eyes.Again."WHO WANTS A PICTURE?!" He asked with a big smile. Traveling to the gates with super speed, posing for the media."All Might!!!""No way!! I thought we wouldn't see him after yesterday!!""Mr All Might!!! Why did you decide to start teaching?!"The crowd fawned over him and he smiled, hands on his hips. "HAHAHA!!!" He chuckled with his usual boisterous voice. "SORRY BUT... IVE GOT SOMEWHERE TO BE!!" He said, marching out the gate down the road. But for some reason... He wasn't running.Seemed like he wanted them to follow him. Which they did. Soon they were completely out of Nova's sight...The gate was clear. Everyone left to follow All Might.Nova looked around in shock before standing up and darting to the gate. Holding her backpack straps tightly before she ran in the opposite direction of where she saw All Might go.Finally leaving campus... Thanks to All Might.A/N:
Not you guys reading All Might defeated her father and just ASSUMING he'd be a repeat of Normal. (I'm writing this shortly after the acceptance chapter)No I don't have beef with All MightttAlso as mentioned here and elsewhere Nova's eyes are like... Realllly light grey.
And she'd definitely accidentally or even purposely have one of those terrifying empty stares sometimes
(Normally I don't like to use pictures of other people's MHA OCs but I'm fairly certain these images are AI so I'm alright with it.)
