Legacy

All Might defeated the Nomu.

Iida returned with a dozen pro heroes and the villains fled in a literal hail of gun fire.

It was finished. The most horrifying, stressful moments of Nova's life so far had come to a close. They were safe for the most part.

But Nova didn't feel safe. It was insane how her life could change in just an hour or so.

She wrapped her arms around herself, she was wearing only the body suit that went under her jacket. Which was covered in the Nomu's blood. She didn't love the look of being drenched in red, especially not while she knew what her classmates thought of her.

The bus ride to UA was completely silent. Everyone was in a daze. The teachers figured it was best to get them all to UA first. Instead of making them wait in the USJ. Which was flagged as unsecure now. They piled in slowly, all exhausted.

Nova sat where she had last time. Without much thought. If Iida minded, he didn't let her know. Looking out the window with his chin in his hand.

Nova closed her eyes. Trying to control her breathing. Her hands wouldn't stop shaking. She kept seeing the image of Shigaraki's hand falling to the ground. Had she made the right move? She permanently injured the man... But he was a villain...

But he was human...

But so was Aizawa. She did it because she was trying to save him.

She didn't know why it disturbed her so much, but she kept having to choke down a gag when she thought of it. So she tried to think of something else.

Zoey.

Damn it, Nova obviously hadn't been able to pick her up. Was she okay? Did she walk home by herself? She shouldn't have to do that... She was probably worried for Nova.

Was Karon worried?

Nova never came home late. She must know that something was wrong, that something had happened... Did she care? Or would Nova have to explain her way out of a punishment when she got home.

Would Karon believe her?

Nova closed her eyes tighter and took a deep breath. Trying not to think at all. She focused on the metal in the bus. Feeling the gears turn and the engine hum.

The rhythm of the machine slowly calming her down.

Tenya Iida felt a sudden weight on his shoulder.

He flinched slightly, he was so jumpy. Even though he hadn't seen nearly as much as his classmates he was still totally on edge. He felt the buzz of left over adrenaline in his veins. Making it difficult to stay still.

He turned his head, his eyes widened as he saw a cloud of red hair. Slightly more deflated then usual, pressed against his armor.

Kurayami leaned against him, her eyes closed lightly. Asleep.

He stared for a few moments, body tense. Like a bumblebee had just landed on him.

Cute and fluffy, but he was terrified that if he moved it would sting him. An innocent creature, painted as a villain.

He turned his head away, staring out the window again. But... He didn't move her off, she was obviously sleepy and would probably fall asleep again anyways. Plus Iida was too tired himself to lecture her.

Even though he hated the feeling of her leaning against him. The warm feeling from her body and the oddly metallic scent of her hair that was weirdly charming.

Yeah he hated it all. Just like he hated her... Totally.

He couldn't help but think about what Bakugo said. And he was right. UA had never been attacked like this before, at least not for several years.

And it just so happened to be the year Kurayami was enrolled?

It just so happened to be her class that was attacked.

It just so happened that when the school was broken into and the information was stolen she was the only student not in the cafeteria like everyone else?

Every little piece of what happened leading up to this attack pointed at her.

But... Iida couldn't help but think of her attacking that villain. Of her screaming at him to run. To get help. To save them.

Why would she do that if she was on the villain's side? Was it fake? A plot to make them trust her more? Just in case they failed to kill All Might?

Or was it all truly just circumstantial?

Iida let out an annoyed sigh. Leaning his head against the cold glass of the window. He'd let the police and heroes handle that. For now... He guessed he could keep an eye on her. Make sure she didn't Do anything... dastardly. Or listen if she... Mumbled any secret villain information while she slept on his shoulder.

Yeah... He could do that...

It was his responsibility as class representative to make sure she didn't get into any trouble.

The 1-A students all say in the entrance hall of UA. As police and pro heroes and paramedics ran wild. Nova leaned against the wall, she had her phone now. She grabbed it when she changed back into her uniform like the other girls.

There were several calls from Miss Karon. Messages too. But they weren't exactly what she expected.

Nova are you okay?

Please be okay.

This is Zoey... I'm using Miss Karon's phone.

I'm home safe, you don't have to pick me up

But the messages from Zoey were from hours ago. She sent several in reply, explaining what happened and that she was all right.

"Miss Kurayami?"

Nova looked up. There was a plain looking man standing over her. He had a buttoned up shirt and tie, along with a notepad and pen in his pocket. One of the detectives.

Nova stood up from the ground. Feeling tired, and a little shaky. She couldn't tell if it was because she was scared, or if it was from Recovery girl's treatments. Her pounding heart seemed to point to the former though.

"Yes sir?" Nova asked, she hate the fact that all of her classmates were looking at them now. They were there waiting to either be dismissed with a police escort. Or be picked up by a parent.

"My name's detective Naomasa, I'm going to have to ask you to come with me back to the station, just to answer a few questions." The man said. Unlike a few of the other officers he looked... Kinder. More approachable.

"O-okay-"

"Why?"

Nova glanced over at Shoji who had stood up beside her. "Shoji you don't have too-"

"I'm just wondering." Shoji muttered, crossing his large arms over his chest. "You didn't ask me any questions."

"It's protocol. It won't take that long I swear and she'll be completely safe." Naomosa explained, putting his hands up in a calming motion.

"Why her?" Shoji asked. Even though he knew the answer.

Everyone did. Nova's face turned red and she looked away. Tugging on his uniform, hoping he'd cut it out. She didn't want this much attention on her.

"She's a... Person of interest. That's all." He said, glancing around as if for backup.

"W-why? Kurayami faught harder than any of us out there..."

Nova glanced down at Midoriya. Who stood up a little ways away from them, taking a cautious step closer. "She saved me out there..."

"I understand that." The detective said calmly. "I am not at all trying to criminalize her or her actions. It is simply protocol-"

"Protocol to what?" Shoji pressed. "Interrogate the victim of a terrorist attack?"

"No. I understand your concern for your friend." Naomosa lowered his voice just slightly. Only the students closest to him could hear his next words. "But Kurayami is the only student here with a criminal record. It's protocol to investigate her for any connections first."

Nova's face when pale at the mention of her record. She hadn't even thought about that, another reason for them to suspect her.

She was a criminal as far as they knew.

She heard a few light gasps from students around her, who were close enough to hear. Of course they had been pretending like they hadn't been listening in.

"He's right." Nova mumbled, stepping towards the detective. "Besides, I don't have anything to hide... If he wants to ask me questions he can."

"Thank you, miss Kurayami."

"Nova-"

"He's just doing his job Shoji." Nova said, looking up at him with her arms wrapped around herself. "I'll see you later okay?" She hoped he would back off. That he wouldn't argue or fight for her anymore.

She appreciated it greatly, she never had someone defend her like this. Midoriya too, she never expected him to step in like that.

But sometimes it was easier to just give in, rather than fighting against what seemed like unfairness. Even though her criminal record was just one of a petty theft she didn't even actually do, she spent time in Juvie. So they had to ask her more questions than anyone else.

Sometimes it was easier to roll with the punches.
