Legacy
The test wasn't as hard as Nova had expected. It was really just a series of physical tests to gauge her control and then a series of questions. About hero laws and about moral dilemmas. Trying to gauge if she was mentally fit for being a hero.Zel's house in Tokyo was similar to the one she had in Musutafu. Fairly big but also mostly empty. With a large garage area and backyard for training. Unlike the last one, The backyard has posts and wooden structures made to practice the gear Zel had invented."This actually reminds me of the inventions Hatsume used during the obstacle course..." Nova said after they were done training, Zel was once again showing her how to remove it all."Yeah that pink haired girl is getting pretty damn close to a patent infringement. I don't know if I want to sue her or hire her yet..." Zel mumbled. "But her gear seemed to lack the ability to release wires indirectly after they're stuck.""You could sue her?" Nova asked with a frown. "If she stole my design. She of course has the ability to invent things similar to it, but my gear has it all thought out. Took years to figure out how to make it perfect, if it was slightly off the user could spin out of control or the wires could get tangled. If you don't use the right type of fuel the engines could catch fire, stuff like that." Zel shrugged."So... Why don't you market it?" Nova asked. "I mean... It could sure be useful for other pros, and you could make a lot of money."Nova remembered something from Midoriya's mumbling. How if she shared her tech with other heroes she could create a very powerful agency.Zel shook her head and walked back to the house, dragging her and Nova's gear behind her. "That's what everyone tells me, heroes and the media often talk on and on and how selfish I am. That I don't share it so I can keep the edge it gives me.""O-oh I didn't mean to imply-""Nah it's fine. It's right in a way, or at least I could see why they think I'm selfish for it. But think about it, if this was mass produced then eventually anyone could acquire one. Even if it's by devious means. The design is secret, only I and the patent approval judges know anything about it. I just... Don't want it to fall into the wrong hands." Zel admitted with a chuckle. "I mean... If I saw some villain using the gear I designed so carefully... It would be like, committing the crime myself. I'd rather die than see this used for evil. So I don't trust it to the world.""...I guess that makes sense." Nova nodded."Do you think... If the man who invented the first gun could see all of the damage the firearm caused, would he have still made it?" Zel pondered. Nova hesitated."Probably not... But someone else would have." Nova admitted. Thinking of how Hatsume thought of an invention so similar to Zel's. Even if someone decided to to share a dangerous device, it wouldn't stop others from coming up with their own."Which is exactly why I have a patent."⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘⫘Nova was terrified, to put it lightly. This being her first time traveling with the gear and all. At first in a more rural area they started swinging slow and low to the ground. Now Nova was barely keeping up with Zel traveling high in a more populated cityThe gear was equiped with long wires, Nova's were made of metal while Zel's were braided by her own hair and strengthened significantly. Meaning each user could directly manipulate them. But they also had these gun like devices that directed where the cables were shot at from the tech around their waists. The handheld trigger also had swords attached, which seemed like a very unwise decision. It reminded Nova of a toddler running with scissors, but instead of scissors they were two foot long blades. Instead of running they were swinging above Japan at a scarily fast pace."I told you you'd pick this up quick! I'm about to make a slow right turn. Remember, don't aim at anything glass."Zel said ahead of her through the coms. Nova had the devices in both her ears, the only way her and Zel were able to communicate. Other than that Nova only had the gear, her boots and her body suit. Instead of her old one it was upgraded to hand pants instead of shorts. But it was still very tight.According to Zel that was good, her jacket had been too long to wear with the gear. Fabric getting caught could be dangerous. Though the wind made Nova's arms cold, adrenaline kept her from freezing her ass off. Zel ahead of her had a similar outfit, with her hair made shorter. It was almost to her scalp. Nova assumed she kept it that way when traveling because it stayed out of her face.Nova wasn't sure where they were. But that had left Tokyo for some other large city. They swung from building to building, each time she retracted and shot out her cables she felt both terrified and excited."I usually keep an eye out for suspicious behavior, but you let me handle that for now and just focus on the movements until you're completely confident." Zel Insttucted. "Also respond when I say something over the coms, you're making me nervous.""Yes ma'am!" Nova responded when she realized she hadn't said anything back this whole time."Good enough. I need to make sure you're not like... Dying or whatever."Nova watched as Zel made that turn she had mentioned. Hitting the side of a tall building with only one cable and swinging around it. Nova copied the movement, but a little sloppier. She understood the physics of using the wires to swing, she had done it in the entrance exam and in the obstacle course race. But using her quirk so openly made her a little nervous. She'd only had her permit for less than a day.Ah! Wait!" Zel squealed suddenly. Turning abruptly to the left in a way Nova definitely couldn't do at this point. "We're gonna land really quick! He's my absolute favorite pro to bother!"Nova had no idea who Zel was talking about. Since the woman has just disappeared behind another building as Nova continued to swing in the opposite direction. She jerked as she got too close to the wall of a building and pulled herself the other way, allowing herself to be pulled into a landing on a rooftop. Alone. She looked over in the direction Zel disappeared in. Sighing and running across the roof, swinging down the street.
