Legacy
School was getting better.Iida was now... Her friend. In a way. They didn't have anything deeper than pleasantries yet. But he greeted her, and they engaged in group conversation and best of all...He didn't hate her.At least not as far as Nova could tell. He smiled and acted as his usual self. Keeping his word about being the best class rep possible, he was definitely kicking it into high gear again. Which unfortunately meant lots of coach whistles and constant reminders of homework to everyone in the class. Nova was glad though, for the first time since the sports festival he was starting to act more like...Himself.Nova took down a few notes in class. Trying not too think too much about going home. She had work with Zel that day.She has to explain everything that happened after accidentally ghosting the pro for two days. She understood and gave her some time off. But this internship was important, and it was also... A job.Nova was making money, not a crazy amount. It was all under the table too, Zel was surprisingly lenient on legal stuff like that. It was slightly concerning to Nova.Regardless, this was a big deal. Nova always knew she'd have to get a job while in highschool. She was in foster care after all, she didn't expect Karon to want her to stay more than a day after her eighteenth birthday. So Nova had to make her own way...And then... And the leave Zoey...She'd make sure she stayed close as possible to them. To Zoey. And like she promised... She'd try to make it possible for them to live together again. But the idea of her actually getting legal custody was unlikely. She had a criminal record, she'd be barely an adult and she... Well she was a Kurayami. That enough we hard.So Zoey would stay with Karon or whatever other home the country put her in. Until her mother was out of prison and in a stable state. Both mentally and financially.Nova couldn't remember what she was in for. It was a mix of things, nothing violent. Stealing, Drug possession, DUI, tax evasion and stuff of the like.Nova never met the woman, but she imagined her to be something like Karon...Karon who was relapsing. Which put Nova on edge. Ever since that one night..."Never fall in love."Not like Nova ever really thought she would fall in love. She didn't have time for that. Besides, who would want her? She wasn't exactly easy to be around, and not just because of her father either. She was nervous, fidgety, she couldn't start conversation and she wasn't even pretty. She put down her pen and pretended to be paying attention to the teacher. Running a hand through her short hair. She couldn't help but feel boyish, with it being so short. That and her muscles, she was just a little bulkier than the other girls in her class. It made her feel manly sometimes, although she was thankful for her strength...Sometimes she just wanted... To feel pretty. Instead of strong. It was probably Junshi that started it, this unfeminine feeling. At Junshi everything was pretty much the same. Sure you had gender specific barracks and restrooms. But girls and boys wore the same uniforms and did all the same training. Nova had heard the boys there joke about all of the girls being 'Dykes'. Even though Nova hadn't even wanted to be there in the first place.Nova shook her head, trying to get back to her original train of thought. The one where she wasn't pitying herself so much.Never fall in love.Honestly Nova couldn't picture Karon in love at all. Love seemed too vulnerable for Karon. The woman was a mystery, with walla on all sides blocking Nova and Zoey out.Thankfully she's never brought any men around. That would have been terrifying to both Nova and Zoey. But because of that Nova never considered that she wasn't single...Never fall in loveWhy did Karon need to be so cryptic? And why was Nova obsessing over the words of a drunk woman? Maybe she didn't mean anything at all. She probably didn't even remember it.And yet it was often sneaking into Nova's mind."This week you'll have a project, partners of two will write a paper together on a chosen pro hero. It can be anyone who possessed a legal license in Japan." Aizawa explained, writing down the format and word count necessary on the board. "Partners have already been randomly decided. You'll have to turn it in Monday."Nova grimaced. Assigned partners? Just her luck. She began to immediately tally up people in her class, from people she'd like to be paired with. To those she'd hate.Shoji was the most ideal. Bakugou was the least. She'd be happy with Uraraka or even Midoriya. Actually she was sure he'd be a good partner, although he'd probably want to do All Might. Which she wouldn't.She glanced over to her side, looking at her other classmates. She wouldn't mind Iida... As long as things weren't awkward. He was very smart, smarter than Nova. So he'd be a good partner, he also knew a lot about heroes and Nova wouldn't mind doing a report of Ingenium.Tsuyu would be nice, she genuinely didn't seem to care at all about who Nova was. And then there was Todoroki... She wasn't very comfortable with him. He didn't seem to mean any harm but Nova kept thinking about his challenge during the festival. "I know that you've bested me once, that you scored the highest in the first test and that your father beat mine during his reign of terror. But know that these facts mean nothing.... Today I will beat you."He didn't, which made Nova believe he might secretly hate her still. But he hung out with Midoriya, they seem to be especially close after the internships. Apparently they ended up fighting some of the Nomu in Hosu the same night Nova and Iida fought Stain."Alright pay attention. Kaminari and Ojirou. Uraraka and Yaoyorozu. Bakugou and Kirishima. Iida and...."He flipped a page. Boredly reading out the pairings. Nova felt her heart beat a little faster now, why?"Iida and Midoriya."Nova looked down at her desk. Why was she weirdly disappointed by that? She has just been hoping for... For what? To get to know him?...No... For an excuse to go back to his house. To meet his father and maybe... Just maybe get a little more information about her family. He had been the only person she every spoke too freely about him. She wanted more."Todoroki and Tsuyu. Kurayami and..."Nova hardly payed attention until her name was called. She glanced up at Aizawa, hoping for Shoji or Uraraka..."Jirou."
