Something About Him

Cynthia's POV

The next few days went by in a blur while attending classes and preparing for our upcoming exams, but while these few days people in the school did talk about the library incident.

Some even believed that Damien and I were officially together now, for he wouldn't spend his entire night in school just for some girl. And do I even have to say that that rumor is not true at all?

Some girls even came up to me and said how good we looked together while congratulating me giddily as if I had just bagged some trophy or some gold medal for the country.

While some girls just couldn't help themselves but shoot daggers at me with their eyes wherever I would pass by them, as if they had some kinda claim over Damien, and I came and snatched those claims away from them.

I seriously don't get girls fighting over a guy and I think I never will.

Anyways, enough about boy drama!

Tonight is only and only about friends as Bethany, Madison and I are having a girls night tonight at my place and they will be here any minute now.

Soon enough Madison and Bethany arrived at my place and the three of us had dinner with my parents and my idiot, annoying brother, as my friends really love food cooked by my mother.

"So now Madi..." I began as soon as we all retired to our rooms.

"Spill" I added shortly as we sat down on my bed.

"Spill what? Cyn" She asked, playing dumb.

"She knows, Madi" Bethany replied.

"Oh does she" Madison mumbled.

"And it also hurts me a little bit that one of my best friends hid such a big thing from me" I said with a sad sigh.

Honestly I did feel bad that Madison didn't feel the need to tell me about this boyfriend of hers, I mean yeah she's not obliged to but we have been friends for years and it kinda does hurts to know that you are no longer a part of the highlights of your friends lives.

"Cyn..." Madison spoke.

"I'm so sorry. You share every biggest and even the smallest thing going on in your life with us and I always do too and I know I should have done the same this time too but..." She trailed off.

"But lately I have been too caught up in my own drama and you didn't want to bother me with yours..." I paused, saying what she has been meaning to say, with a small smile.

"I know, Madi. And I, myself feel like I haven't been a good friend lately, I mean come on I don't even know that my friend finally has a boyfriend...what more could I say?" I added with a scoff while giving slight shrug to my shoulders.

"Anyways, tell me all about him" I said a moment later.

"Yes please, I would also like to know about him" Bethany said while causally lying on her stomach, with her elbows propped out, supporting her upper body so she could still look at us.

"So..." Madison began with a small smile playing on her lips and that made me smile too.

Well...whoever it is, I'm happy for her.

"His name is Luke..." She paused purposely, as if to see our reaction to the name.

"And..." I said, emphasizing on the word.

"His name is Luke guys" She said once again, with her eyebrows raised as if she was hinting at something which we obviously weren't getting.

"Yeah so...?" Bethany said with a slight frown on her face as Madison just heavied a sigh, giving up.

"Luke Hamilton" Madison replied.

"Luke what?!" Bethany asked, sitting up.

"Are you kidding me?" I exclaimed, utterly surprised.

"No. I'm most definitely not" Madison replied, grinning while shaking her head.

"Did you know about this?" I asked Bethany.

"Duh. Obviously I didn't. If I did then I wouldn't be so surprised" She replied before looking back at Madison.

"The same Luke Hamilton who rejected you last year?" She asked way too bluntly as a slight gasp escaped my lips at her bluntness.

"Beth..." I said while shaking my head at her.

"Yes, Beth, the exact same one" Madison replied through her teeth.

Jesus Christ! Bethany and her big mouth!

Why did she have to say that? Why can't she just keep her smart mouth shut!

"I'm sorry, Madi, It just came out like that...I didn't mean it" Bethany said with a sorry look as Madison just rolled her eyes at her.

"But how did this happen? Madi" I asked, grabbing their attention and bringing them back to the important topic for the night.

"And wasn't he like...dating Marina just a few weeks back?" Bethany asked.

"Well...I don't know what happened between them but anyways..." Madison paused.

"I know this might sound a little unbelievable, but he asked me out" She continued.

"And we went out a few times" She added.

"And when did he ask you to be his girlfriend?" Bethany asked.

"Um...well...he didn't" Madison replied hesitantly, the smile on her lips suddenly falling off.

"Then you asked him to be your boyfriend?" I asked, a bit confused.

"No. I didn't" She replied shortly.

"So you guys went out a couple of times but none of you asked each other to be their girlfriend or boyfriend..." Bethany paused as if taking notes to herself and analysing things.

"So how does that make you two girlfriend and boyfriend?" She continued, asking the much obvious question.

"Yeah you are kinda right but I think that it's obvious, isn't it? That we are together now" Madison asked, timidly.

"No, Madi, it isn't. You should always be clear about such things, well suppose, you are considering that you both are in a relation now...but what if he doesn't thinks the same...what if he thinks that you guys just went out a couple of times and that's it" Bethany replied and though her words might have seemed harsh but they were absolutely true and correct.

"Madi...I think Beth has got a point" I said, hesitantly not wanting her to think that maybe we weren't happy for her and that's why we were saying all of this.

"Well...we did go out a couple of times and I just thought that that's how it works...that we are together now" Madison replied with a long face.

"Maybe you can ask him" I said after a moment of silence.

"Ask him what?" Madison asked.

"To be your boyfriend" I replied with a slight shrug.

"Don't be silly, Cyn" Madison rolled her eyes.

"I'm never gonna ask him" She added.

"Why? What's wrong with it? Why does it always has to be the guy asking? Why can't you be the one asking?" I asked while shaking my head slightly.

"Well...Cyn, it doesn't works that way" Bethany said.

"It can, Beth" I replied shortly.

"Oh is that so?" Bethany asked with a teasing smile and an eyebrow raised.

"Then why haven't you asked Damien out yet?" She questioned, catching me completely off gaurd as I opened my mouth to say something but not finding the correct words, I shut it again.

"Why do I feel like we have had this kinda conversation before" Madison said, thoughtfully.

"Because we have..." Bethany paused looking at me.

Oh no! I can guess where this is heading.

"In that conversation we even made a bet that Cynthia Miller would make the first move on the guy she happens to like" She continued with a devilishly teasing smile.

"Guys, I really don't remember any such bet" I replied, causally brushing the topic away.

"Oh no no. You did say that you would make the first move if you like some guy" Madison said, recalling our conversation.

"Alright. Yeah, maybe I did say that...but where's the guy?" I asked.

"Breaking news guys; there's absolutely nobody that I like yet...so this bet is null and void" I added.

"Ah..." Bethany began.

"And don't we all know how big and fat lie that is" She continued.

"Don't we all know the chaos that has been going on in your heart and mind ever since you met..." She added only to be interrupted by me.

"Beth. Don't" I mumbled, strictly, not wanting hear the thing out loud which, somewhere deep down in my heart I already knew.

"Damien..." She said, completing her sentence anyways.

"Oh. My. God!" Madison murmured.

"I knew it" She squealed.

"I just fucking knew it" She added.

"The way you spoke about him...the way you gazed at him...I could just see this coming" She said.

"Madi, Beth has lost her mind, don't listen to her" I replied.

"Alright, Cyn, we won't tease you anymore" Bethany said.

"But on a serious note, it's okay if you don't wanna listen to me...but you surely should listen to your heart..." She paused, taking my hand and placing it over my heart as I looked at her confused as to what she was trying to prove.

"It's racing, isn't it?" She questioned and I was at a loss of words because she was absolutely correct...it indeed was racing at an unusual pace...I could feel it pounding against my ribcage.

"Just hearing his name" She added as I just chose to remain silent and they did stop teasing me and thank heavens soon enough they changed the topic too and we talked about anything and everything other then Damien.

The next day at school was much more busier than the usual days with the winter fest beginning tomorrow, on saturday while the play that I'm performing at would be on the second and also last day of the winter fest, which would be sunday and our first exam is just on the next day, that is monday.

Too hectic, I know and I'm honestly so stressed about my exams this time, which is why I decided to stop by at my favorite cafe, which is nearby my school, to grab my favorite pistachio muffins.

Well...this is my way of stress relief.

"Thank you" I mumbled with a small smile to the blonde guy who handed me a small bag of muffins, with a warm smile and just as I turned around to leave my gaze fell on the guy, sitting far at the corner of the cafe, sipping what I guessed to be coffee.

It's Damien, of course, given my luck who else would it be?

I sighed, closing my eyes for a second, recalling the conversation I had with my father, who clearly and strictly asked me to stay away from him and honestly I don't see any reason why shouldn't I or why wouldn't I.

But then again...I can't help but feel whatever this is that I feel whenever he is around...whatever this is that I feel for him...I can't help the undeniable pull and attraction that I feel towards him.

I want you to stay away from him.

The thing is...I don't want you to be even friends with him.

He just seems bad news.

It's okay if you don't wanna listen to me...but you surely should listen to your heart...

It's racing, isn't it?

Just hearing his name...

I snapped my eyes open as my father and Bethany's voice rang in my ears at the same time.

I glanced back at where Damien was sitting only to find that he was no longer there.

Where did he vanish off suddenly? I wondered as my eyes wandered around the cafe, only to find him exiting the cafe already.

And God knows for what reason I ran behind him as he walked out.

"Damien..." I called after him.

Why was I calling after him? What was I going to talk about? Did I have something to say to him? Or did we have any common topic to talk about?

Well...even I had no answer to those questions.

Thankfully he did stop in his tracks but didn't turn around to look at me, but he obviously knew it was me, didn't he? He has heard enough of my bickering to recognize my voice by now.

Yeah maybe that is why he didn't turn around, my subconscious commented.

"Hey..." I mumbled, standing before him.

"Um...I..." I trailed off not knowing what to say.

Be quick, Cynthia, think of something to talk about real quick before he walks off.

"I actually wanted to thank you for that night..." I paused and without giving it a second thought, I continued.

"So maybe we could grab some coffee?" I offered hesitantly.

Asking him for coffee when he just had some not even minutes ago, great move Cynthia Miller!

"So..." I trailed off as he just stared at me blankly.

"Coffee?" I asked with a slight shrug.

There you go, Beth, I made the first move.

"Alright, I guess it's a no to coffee then..." I said once I was sure he wasn't going to say anything.

"I mean you just had coffee so obviously you wouldn't wanna have coffee again so soon" I continued, awkwardly.

"Anyways, are you attending the winter fest this year?" I asked, trying to spark a conversation.

"I'm performing on the second day, maybe you could..." I stopped on being interrupted by him.

"Cynthia..." My name rolled off his tongue so smoothly and beautifully, making me stare at him with a sudden warm, fluttering feeling in my heart as he called me by my name for the very first time.

"Don't" He added giving a slight shake to his head before walking past me.

Well...

What was I expecting?

I sighed, feeling sudden a pang of pain in my heart, that I have never felt before, as I turned around to look at his retreating figure.

Maybe this is all for my own good and his too...maybe this is right after all...maybe whatever this thing was...should be left here...incomplete...maybe I shouldn't take this any further.

"His keys..." I mumbled as I watched him grab his phone from his pocket and in the process accidentally dropping the keys, which I guessed were the keys to his bike, on the pavement.

I ran upto where he dropped the keys and grabbed them as he continued walking further without any knowledge that he dropped something.

"Damien..." I called out, running behind him.

"Your keys" I added while walking after him in quick strides to catch up to him, just then he stopped walking, which resulted into me running straight into him and unfortunately that was also the exact moment when he chose to turn around, which made me loose my balance and I fell on the hard, concrete pavement, straight on my face but thankfully I propped my elbows out to support my upper which saved my face from hitting the pavement.

But my elbows did hurt like a bitch.

"Leave me alo..." He stopped, maybe when he noticed that I fell down.

I looked up at him, his expressions softened and his eyes filled with utter guilt which told me that this was obviously and completely unintentional. It was just an accident.

Unknowingly my eyes filled up with hot tears as I dusted off the dirt on my elbows and examined them, there were a few scratches on my left elbow but it wasn't much to be worried about but my right elbow was bleeding, maybe because most of my body weight was on the right one.

Though I don't know what the tears were for? Were they because I was hurt? Or were they because of how embarrassed I felt at the moment? Or were they because of his unnecessary harshness?

"Jesus fucking Christ! Miller!" Hearing a familiar, I glanced around for the source of the voice, only to see Steve running up to me from across the street.

"Miller, what's wrong? How did you end up there..." He paused.

"And you are hurt too" He observed before stretching his hand out for me to hold and get off the pavement and just at the exact same moment Damien did too.

"Come on" Steve mumbled as I stared at both of their hands before looking up at Steve and then at Damien.

Without much thought and delay I placed my hand in Steve's, instead of Damien's.

"Thank you" I mumbled to Steve, once I was off the pavement.

"Are you okay? Miller" Steve asked and I couldn't help but smile at the concern laced in his voice.

Well...at least somebody cares.

"I'm fine, Steve. Just a few scratches, I think I'll live" I replied.

"Good then. Come I'll drop you home" He offered.

"Oh no, I have my bicycle with me" I replied.

"Okay then I'll walk you home" He said, leaving no room for argument.

"Alright" I replied shortly.

"Well let's go then" He said and just as we were about to walk off I remembered that I still had Damien's bike keys.

"Wait" I mumbled to Steve.

"You dropped your keys" I said in a low voice, before handing over the keys to him as he glanced at them and probably figured that those were the reason why I came after him.

The three of us just stood there in silence.

What was I even waiting for?

A thank you?

Or maybe an apology?

Well...definitely none of those is ever coming from him so I guess it's probably best if I gather the remaining self-esteem that I am left with and leave right now.

"Alright then..." I mumbled to myself before turning on my heel.

"Cynthia..." I stopped hearing him utter my name for the second time in a day.

I glanced back at him and waited for a moment for him to speak further but he didn't, rather he just stared at me.

I sighed.

Deciding to break our staring contest, I turned on my heels once again, only this time I did manage to leave him behind.
